How do we perform lens frame repair with weld?
Step 1: Prepare the joint
Joint preparation is the first and most important step in any welding project. For a high-quality weld, we clean the frame weld area of any paint or coating. We also clean both edges of the break from oils or dirt. If needed, we grind the parts to make them flat for a tight and seamless joint.
Step 2: Add filler wire
Filler wire acts like glue, joining the broken parts together. We use silver filler wire for eyeglass frames, as it is more compatible with different frame metals. We use ultra-thin wire (26–30 AWG) to blend seamlessly with your frame and allow for a precise, strong repair.
The laser beam and weld spot are bathed in a flow of argon gas, which prevents oxygen from reaching the weld area. This avoids oxidation of reactive metals like titanium.
